Senior Adult Department

The Senior Adult Department of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center promotes Jewish cultural heritage and values by providing social, educational, and recreational programs. Through these programs we strengthen our connections to our community and keep alive our history and traditions. The Senior Adult Program encourages us to learn, grow and enrich our lives among others who share our values.

Senior Model Seder

Rabbi Scott Meltzer of Ohr Shalom Synagogue leads this annual event at the JCC that gives us new perspectives to the traditional traditions of Passover. Light lunch served with ceremonial foods.

Do You Know a Senior Woman Who Would Benefit From Social & Community Connection?

Do you know any Jewish women age 75 or older who are isolated and would like to make connections in the community? Thanks to a generous grant from the Jewish Women’s Foundation, the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS, and Jewish Family Service are collaborating to provide vital assistance and social programs to this population. 

You are never too old to celebrate life,
Jewish community connection, and friendship.

Living alone doesn’t have to mean feeling lonely. Jewish Family Service and the
Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS are collaborating to
provide vital assistance and social programs for older Jewish women—in their homes and
out in the community—thanks to a generous grant from the Jewish Women’s Foundation.

You can help connect an isolated senior woman to our compassionate Jewish community:
• Exercise, art, and computer classes; lectures
on current events; and entertainment
• Holiday celebrations with community
• Door-to-door transportation to shopping,
medical appointments, and synagogues; fun,
group excursions
• Hot, kosher meals delivered to her home or
served in a nearby Social & Wellness Center
• Help making minor home repairs and conducting
a safety check of your home

TRANSPORTATION

If you need a ride to the JCC, contact On the Go Transportation Solutions for Older Adults. You can also get rides to synagogues, medical appointments, shopping, and more. ON THE GO WEBSITE >

MEDICARE COUNSELING

Free counseling at the JCC once a month! The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides individual and confidential counseling related to Medicare and long term care insurance. State certified HICAP counselors can help you with these services and more:

• Understand your Medicare benefits.
• Review Medicare Advantage options (HMO, PPO, PFFS).
• Compare Part D drug plans.

HICAP counseling on Medicare will be at the JCC once a month on the third Tuesday for one hour appointments between 12:15 and 3:15 P.M. To make an appointment with a counselor call 1-800-434-0222 or 858-565-8772.

LEGAL SERVICES

Free legal guidance and counseling opportunities on the third Friday of each month (mornings, by appointment) in the Garb Senior Activity Center. For an appointment, contact Melanie Rubin: 858.362.1141

TEEN TECHNOLOGY TUTORS FOR SENIORS

Thursdays, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
2016: January 7, February 11,  February 25, March 3 (note date changes since previous publicity)

Who do you turn to when you have questions about your computer and/or smartphone? Your grandkids? Never fear if they’re not here, we have teens for you! Whether you want to make font sizes larger on your screen and phone, establish a Skype or Facebook account, learn word processing tips, set up email, take photos with your phone, or whatever, come learn from the younger generation how it is done on your device!

This free service is a collaboration between the JCC Senior & Teen Departments, the JCC's Teen Leadership Council, and Camp Jaycee CITs, thanks to a grant from the Jewish Women’s Foundation.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Please stop by the Senior Department offices or the Fitness Front Desk to fill out an "Emergency Form." These will only be used in case something should happen to you while participating in a JCC program or working out in our facility. We need to know whom to contact on your behalf (closest relative, preferred hospital, doctor's number, etc.). If you haven't completed one recently, please provide us with a new one so that we have the most current information available.
