Jewish Poets-Jewish Voices

December 17, 2019:
Adam Greenfield, Lucy Lehman and Anna Abraham Gasaway are the three local poets to be featured on the opening program of the new season of Jewish Poets-Jewish Voices. Following the featured poets, there will be a half hour of open mic. The evening will conclude with a reception.

January 21, 2020:
Three local poets will be featured--Jan Gist, Yoel Guadarrama and Lorraine Fisher. A half hour of open mic to follow. Evening concludes with a reception.

Marketa Hancova discusses the circumstances that led to the division in Europe into the free West and the Communist East through several historical events, concluding with the account of the fall of Communism in Europe in 1989 and its aftermath. The historical narration, complemented with clips of archival footage, will be interjected with rich dynamic personal stories of the everyday life in Communism in the 1970s and 1980s. This course is a natural progression from Beginners Spanish III. Class work will include practicing new vocabulary and grammar to apply to practical real-life situations such as being able to explain your symptoms to a doctor, haggling over prices in a market, inviting a friend to a movie, and telling stories about past experiences. Dialogues and visual stimuli will engage students and provide a backdrop for meaningful conversations between student and teacher, and between fellow students!

The goal of this class is to have participants practice, improve, and acquire confidence in using their Spanish vocabulary. Students will practice advanced grammatical points such as: preterite vs. imperfect; ser vs. estar; and present and past subjunctive. The instructor will introduce each class topic from a specific genre in literature, history, music, economics issues, social processes, indigenous American societies, arts, and current events from Latin America and/or Spain.

Teen Technology Tutors for Seniors

Wednesdays, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.

Who do you turn to when you have questions about your computer and/or smartphone? Your grandkids? Never fear if they’re not here, we have teens for you! Whether you want to make font sizes larger on your screen and phone, establish a Skype or Facebook account, learn word processing tips, set up email, take photos with your phone, or whatever, come learn from the younger generation how it is done on your device!

This free service is a collaboration between the JCC Senior & Teen Departments, the JCC's Teen Leadership Council, and Camp Jaycee CITs.

RSVP in advance to Senior Dept., (858) 362-1141 with the date(s) you would like to attend and the type of device with which you need assistance. Bring your charged device and questions.


 

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Please stop by the Senior Department offices to fill out an "Emergency Form." These will only be used in case something should happen to you while participating in a JCC program or working out in our facility. We need to know whom to contact on your behalf (closest relative, preferred hospital, doctor's number, etc.). If you haven't completed one recently, please provide us with a new one so that we have the most current information available.
