The Senior Adult Department of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center promotes Jewish cultural heritage and values by providing social, educational, and recreational programs. Through these programs we strengthen our connections to our community and keep alive our history and traditions. In this new series of half-day trips, the JCC Senior Dept., will kick-off its first unique tour with Alan Mindell, professional guide and author. From a topiary garden in Mission Hills to nostalgic El Cajon Blvd. to the neighborhoods of Burlingame and Kensington, learn some new facts about our fine city, see some sights you may not have known existed and reminisce about old neighborhoods. Note: although most of the tour will be on the bus, there will be some walking involved.

The goal of this class is to have participants practice, improve, and acquire confidence in using their Spanish vocabulary. Students will practice advanced grammatical points such as: preterite vs. imperfect; ser vs. estar; and present and past subjunctive. The instructor will introduce each class topic from a specific genre in literature, history, music, economics issues, social processes, indigenous American societies, arts, and current events from Latin America and/or Spain.

Marketa Hancova of Around Town with Marketa leads us on a walking cultural and historical tour of Balboa Park that will reveal the rich and unique history and a story behind the development of the Park. Enjoy fascinating facts about the architecture, surrounding gardens, and overall planning of the park that was made a lush urban gateway from an arid desert. The tour will also cover the buildings built for the 1915 exposition as well a small part of the 1935 development. Note: this walking tour will have a few rest stops.

Teen Technology Tutors for Seniors

Who do you turn to when you have questions about your computer and/or smartphone? Your grandkids? Never fear if they’re not here, we have teens for you! Whether you want to make font sizes larger on your screen and phone, establish a Skype or Facebook account, learn word processing tips, set up email, take photos with your phone, or whatever, come learn from the younger generation how it is done on your device!

This free service is a collaboration between the JCC Senior & Teen Departments, the JCC's Teen Leadership Council, and Camp Jaycee CITs.

RSVP in advance to Senior Dept., (858) 362-1141 with the date(s) you would like to attend and the type of device with which you need assistance. Bring your charged device and questions.


 

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Please stop by the Senior Department offices to fill out an "Emergency Form." These will only be used in case something should happen to you while participating in a JCC program or working out in our facility. We need to know whom to contact on your behalf (closest relative, preferred hospital, doctor's number, etc.). If you haven't completed one recently, please provide us with a new one so that we have the most current information available.
