The Senior Adult Department of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center promotes Jewish cultural heritage and values by providing social, educational, and recreational programs. Through these programs we strengthen our connections to our community and keep alive our history and traditions. The Senior Adult Program encourages us to learn, grow and enrich our lives among others who share our values.

Intermediate Spanish

Tuesday, November 3 - December 8, 2020 (six weeks) | 3:30 - 5:30 pm
Virtual

Students should be able to handle complicated tasks and sociocultural situations: elaborating, complimenting, and apologizing; narrate and describe; link sentences together smoothly; understand main ideas and details of connected discourse on variety of topics beyond immediacy of situation; read longer texts, get main ideas and facts, and notice relevant details.

New students will need to purchase book on their own: "Easy Spanish Step by Step" by Barbara Bregstein

Spanish Conversation

Tuesdays, November 3 - December 8, 2020 (6 weeks) | 1:00 - 3:00 pm
Virtual

Participants practice, improve, and acquire confidence using their Spanish vocabulary; practice advanced grammatical points like preterite vs. imperfect, ser vs. estar, present and past subjunctive. Topics from specific genres in literature, history, music, economics issues, social processes, indigenous American societies, arts, and current events from Latin America and/or Spain.

Teen Technology Tutors for Seniors

Wednesdays, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M.

Who do you turn to when you have questions about your computer and/or smartphone? Your grandkids? Never fear if they’re not here, we have teens for you! Whether you want to make font sizes larger on your screen and phone, establish a Skype or Facebook account, learn word processing tips, set up email, take photos with your phone, or whatever, come learn from the younger generation how it is done on your device!

This free service is a collaboration between the JCC Senior & Teen Departments, the JCC's Teen Leadership Council, and Camp Jaycee CITs.

RSVP in advance to Senior Dept., (858) 362-1141 with the date(s) you would like to attend and the type of device with which you need assistance. Bring your charged device and questions.


 

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Please stop by the Senior Department offices to fill out an "Emergency Form." These will only be used in case something should happen to you while participating in a JCC program or working out in our facility. We need to know whom to contact on your behalf (closest relative, preferred hospital, doctor's number, etc.). If you haven't completed one recently, please provide us with a new one so that we have the most current information available.
