The Senior Adult Department of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center promotes Jewish cultural heritage and values by providing social, educational, and recreational programs. Through these programs we strengthen our connections to our community and keep alive our history and traditions. The Senior Adult Program encourages us to learn, grow and enrich our lives among others who share our values.

Virtual Mah Jongg Lessons

Dates and times to be arranged based on participants’ availability.

Want to learn how to play Mah Jongg, or sharpen your game? Stay stimulated, connect with old friends and meet new people during these live, interactive virtual lessons for beginners and intermediate level players. Classes of four people ensure individual attention with instructors from the School of American Mah Jongg. Sign up with friends or as an individual and be paired with people in other cities.

Requirements: video and audio; Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser; desktop computer, laptop w/external mouse, tablet, or iPad, and 2020 Mah Jongg card (2021 will be used after March).

Current 2020 Mah Jongg card can be purchased separately ($10 large or $9 standard). 2021 card available to pre-order for delivery at end of March ($10 large or $9 standard)

Price per 4 week class (2 hours per week): $150 | JCC Member: $140

Advanced Spanish

Tuesdays, February 23 - March 30, 2021 | 3:30 - 5:30 pm

Students should be able to state their opinions on topics of personal interest. Their narrations, descriptions and discussions from reading-comprehension should use compound sentences, with the most accuracy in the present, past and future tense. Understand and use vocabulary from familiar thematic word groups, and utilize pronunciation and intonation comprehensible to an audience accustomed to interacting with language learners.

Students will need to purchase book on their own ahead of time, Advanced Spanish Step by Step by Barbara Bregstein.You can purchase the book HERE.

Teen Technology Tutors for Seniors

Who do you turn to when you have questions about your computer and/or smartphone? Your grandkids? Never fear if they’re not here, we have teens for you! Whether you want to make font sizes larger on your screen and phone, establish a Skype or Facebook account, learn word processing tips, set up email, take photos with your phone, or whatever, come learn from the younger generation how it is done on your device!

This free service is a collaboration between the JCC Senior & Teen Departments, the JCC's Teen Leadership Council, and Camp Jaycee CITs.

RSVP in advance to Senior Dept., (858) 362-1141 with the date(s) you would like to attend and the type of device with which you need assistance. Bring your charged device and questions.


 

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Please stop by the Senior Department offices to fill out an "Emergency Form." These will only be used in case something should happen to you while participating in a JCC program or working out in our facility. We need to know whom to contact on your behalf (closest relative, preferred hospital, doctor's number, etc.). If you haven't completed one recently, please provide us with a new one so that we have the most current information available.
