All of our personal trainers are nationally certified and are eager to design a custom fitness
program for you. Our trainers are always expanding their knowledge in the fitness industry
through their national certification continuing education courses.
What credentials and experience do the JCC trainers have?
Our Master Trainers are nationally certified by: American Council in Exercise (ACE), Aerobics and Fitnss Association of America (AFAA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA, CSCS).
All trainers are CPR & 1st aid Certified.
Master trainers have a minimum of 6500 hours of hands-on work experience and hold an advanced personal trainer certification or have a B.S./M.A./M.S. in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Psychology or related field.

What is the JCC Personal Training program designed to do?
We will match you with a trainer who will design a personalized exercise program just for YOU! You trainer will coach with a "team effort" approach so that you WILL achieve your fitness goals!
What if I'm interested in gaining or losing weight?
Weight management, gain or loss, depends on proper diet, physical activity, lifestyle and genetics. Our trainers will discuss up-to-date nutrition with you.
What kind of activities would I do during a workout?
Your trainer will have you perform activities or exercises to develop muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility; but depending on your goals, you may also do activities to develop coordination, balance, power, or agility. Our trainers have a variety of skills to provide you with options so that your workouts stay FUN and exciting!
Can my kids work out with me?
You must be at least 16 years old to be in the fitness center or a 15-year old may take 3 personal training sessions for a certificate of achievement and receive a membership card early. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the fitness center.
How can I get my children involved in a healthy lifestyle they will like?
Are you a parent that feels your child watches too much TV or plays too many video games? A youth personal training program has been developed for 8-15 year olds that need guidance in how to live and lead a healthier lifestyle. We will educate youth on proper nutrition, cardiovascular health and how exercise can be fun! This is an excellent opportunity to learn early on the important role that fitness plays in all aspects of life. Training will take place in the gymnasium, field, pool or group exercise studio.
Each session is 45 minutes. $45/session or $10 for each additional child with a maximum of four children per training session.
How do I arrange Personal Training sessions?
You can meet with a personal trainer that you like or you can contact Crystal Powers, Fitness & Wellness Director, (858) 362-1340 or you can learn more about the Personal trainers below.
Can I train with a friend or a small group of people?
This option is ideal for friends wishing to begin a new fitness plan together or for extra motivation. It is also a great way to share the expense by splitting the cost. Each additional person is $10/session.
Personal Nutrition & Weight Management Coach
A successful weight control program is one that supports long-term maintenance of a healthy weight. The answer is not a magic formula, cream, or supplement. The answer is a healthy diet combined with an exercise program.

Crystal has managed and developed dynamic fitness programs for Sea World Corporate Wellness Center and many large health club chains. She was also the Instructor of Physical Fitness at Southwestern College in Chula Vista and the P.E. and Nutrition Instructor at Northern Marianas College in Micronesia. Crystal also works with high school teams and teen athletes as a strength and conditioning coach. Using her knowledge of nutrition combined with her real strength for real life know how, Crystal is a motivator who loves to help people look and feel better.

Chasen worked at the Sports Medicine Rehabilitation Center at Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he gained valuable physical therapy experience for working with clients with injuries. Chasen takes pride in motivating all of his clients towards attainable fitness goals. He works under the philosophy that every body is unique and requires a tailored fitness plan and specific tools to reach the individual’s goal. Chasen has been a High School coach and has trained athletes to excel in their sport. He is currently a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of California.

RJ has coached high school athletics varsity level volleyball as well as varsity rugby for men and women and currently serves as the fitness coach for the UCSD Men's Rugby team. His interest in the field was sparked by his own knee injuries as a youth and the subsequent struggles with the rehabilitation process. While playing rugby, RJ experienced a major shoulder injury that required surgical repair. During that time, he became less active and gained weight. After successful recovery, RJ became focused on getting back in shape and staying in shape. His training philosophy is guided by his personal experience and his desire to assist others with the objective of developing and maintaining a healthy approach to lifelong fitness.

Marzena combines her knowledge of sports , exercise physiology, kinesiology and nutrition to motivate and guide clients to their fitness goals. Marzena has experienced excellent results working with people suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia, and going through muscle and joint rehabilitation. Marzena will help you reach your goals, whether it is to make a dramatic physique change or if you are training for a specific event.

Mila is passionate about teaching people how to reclaim their bodies and their health in the safest and shortest amount of time. Growing up in Ukraine Mila was trained in ice-skating and martial arts. With more than 15 years in the fitness industry on both sides of the planet she has seen many changes and different approaches in training and achieving results that add to the effectiveness of the experience her clients enjoy.

He loves to help clients achieve their fitness goals. Michael also currently works at USMC Air Station Miramar as a Night Manager and Massage Therapist.

Rebecca has been involved in fitness activities from a young age. She has studied dance (modern, jazz, tap, and ballet), Pilates, yoga, karate (Tang Soo do) and stage combat. She is currently pursuing her degree in Kinesiology and also has a degree in theater performance.
She enjoys helping people reach their fitness goals. As teaching is her passion, she will give you the tools to successfully train on your own as well. She is also available for private yoga or Pilates classes.
Outside of the gym, Rebecca performs and teaches for the National Comedy Theater and Improvisation Theater Company.
