THE Monologue Audition Class

Ages 10–18
Mondays • 5:00–6:00 p.m.
Winter Session: January 12, 19, 26, February 2, 9, 16, 23*

Work with Sherri Allen, the foremost monologue expert, to ready yourself for your audition for Fireflies, or any show that requires a monologue audition. Learn what is wanted at a monologue audition, which is much more than just memorizing and reciting, and understand the importance of developing a character, physically, emotionally and psychologically and being able to show that to the casting director in the few minutes you have for the audition.

Beginning Acting

Ages 7-10

This class will introduce young artists to everything they wanted to know about acting but were afraid to ask. If you have never been in a J*Company show this is the perfect class for you to ready yourself for any production. If you are already a J*Company veteran this class is also for you as every good artist goes over the basics continuously throughout their career. So come have fun learning and relearning the art of acting!

Create-A-Character

Ages 7–10

This class is the perfect place to learn about creating exciting and memorable characters. Students will be challenged to use their skills to create a variety of characters that range in age, type, personality and background. This is the class that every young actor should take and take often to keep on top of their imagination and skills; the only requirement is that you be able to read and explore!

J*Company Jr. (16 Week Course!)

Ages 4–6

As a J*Company Jr. student you will learn about aspects of theatre and how to perform a play by the end of the course. This course is meant to help that budding young artist who wants to be in a J*Company show, increase his/her knowledge of all things theatre and prepare them for their J*Company auditions when he/she turn 7.

Yoga for the Young Actor (Moms can take this class too!)

Ages 8-11

This is a class that every young artist should have under their belt. Kathryn is a certified yoga instructor with years of teaching young people as well as adults. We are offering this class to our young artists, so they can understand and utilize their bodies on stage and discover what is really possible when one’s mind and body come together to create a character. Requirements: Bring a towel or yoga mat to class.

Acting Through Your Imagination II

Ages 7–11

Students will learn to embrace the abstract by acting out with found objects, magazine clippings, and the colors of the rainbow. In this class students will create every week and incorporate sound, movement, and acting techniques to showcase their original work.

Character Movement

Ages 7–11

In this class students will have a very unique experience, they will learn a skill that will motivate them to find the movement of the character behind the words in their scripts. This technique is a great tool for any performer who wants to make a career in theatre.

Voice I: Back to Basics

Ages 7–9

Learn to sing! This year students will be focusing more on the technique of singing and singing breathing. Students learn how the voice works, what breathe support is and how to use it to project in a large theater as preparation for performing on the large J*Company stage and beyond. Students will be given solo lines, in a group selection, to give them experience in using their voices in a musical theatre production.

Today’s musicals feature Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Swing, Ballroom, Tap dance and a combination of much more. This class will teach steps and styles used in musical theatre from the past to present. Focusing on basic techniques in ballet, jazz, and partnering, stage projection, development of stage characters, and auditioning skills students will learn a wide variety of choreography set to songs from Broadway musicals. This is a must for any actor wanting to develop themselves as a TRIPLE THREAT!

Voice II

This is a class for our more experienced Broadway bound artists. This class will take on more intricate and difficult challenges while still being tons of fun. The young artists will be stretching their talents in voice, dance and acting, performing selections from some of the greatest musicals of all time!

FEATURED WORKSHOPS

Tap Intensive I Workshop

Ages 7–10 • Sunday, January 11 • 12:00–2:00 p.m.

Have you ever been to an audition and the director asked you if you could tap? Did you hesitate because you weren’t sure? If so than, come to this two-day “tap intensive” workshop which will teach you many of the major moves you’ll need to know for any audition. This is a great class for beginners and/or anyone with a previous tap background, who would like to brush up on their audition skills. REQUIREMENT: Please wear tap shoes. If you do not have your own tap shoes, you must wear hard sole character shoes for this class. Pre-requisite for Tap Intensive II

Tap Intensive II Workshop

If you enjoyed our Tap Intensive I workshop then don’t miss out on this workshop. Tap Intensive II will not only expand on what was learned in Tap Intensive I, but it provide you with even more dance steps to make you stand out at every audition. You must complete Tap Intensive I to be eligible for this class. REQUIREMENT: Please wear tap shoes. If you do not have your own tap shoes, you must wear hard sole character shoes for this class. THE How To Get A Callback Workshop!

It is always good to have a few sets of eyes looking at the piece you are working on. In Emily’s new workshop she will do just that so that you are completely prepared when walking into any audition. This is the perfect workshop if you are preparing your monologue for your Fireflies/BRUNDIBAR audition! Requirement: You must have a prepared monologue for this workshop.

THE How To Get A MUSICAL Callback Workshop!

Ages 10–18
Sunday, February 15 • 2:30–4:30 p.m.

Have you ever wanted an expert in the arts to look at your musical audition piece and give you constructive criticism on it and then help you to make it better? It is always good to have a few sets of eyes looking at the piece you are working on. In Joey and Tim’s new workshop they will do just that so that you are completely prepared when walking into any musical audition. Requirement: You must have a prepared song with sheet music for this workshop.

THE What To Do At A Callback Workshop!

Congratulations! You got a callback! Now what do you do? Well Emily will show you all about how to present yourself at a callback and the important points to remember when doing a cold reading.

Improvisation for Tweens Workshop!

Ages 10–18
Sunday, April 5 • 1:00–3:00 p.m.

In this workshop students will learn the art of improvisation. As an actor one must be ready for anything and this is a great way to keep your mind stimulated and your feet active.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• All students ages 7 - 12 must be enrolled in a J*Company class during the session of the show they are auditioning for.
• JCC MEMBER BENEFIT! Each JCC member is entitled to sign up for one free class (up to $88) during the 2008-2009 Season. Workshops and additional classes are subject to the regular member price.
• There are no refunds or exchanges on class fees once enrolled. If J*Company must cancel a class, due to insufficient enrollment, any fees paid will be refunded in full.
• Please make attending classes a priority because we do! Be sure to mark your calendars for the Sharing Class, as it is a “must attend” for parents and students alike.
