The Frisco Yid: Travel Seminar to the Bay Area

After much anticipation, the Travel Seminar to the Bay Area finally takes flight this summer! In this unique educational experience, treasured San Diego educator Dr. Joellyn Zollman will lead you and your fellow travelers through the sites (and tastes) of the Jewish Bay Area, with a series of programs designed to illuminate and entertain. 

Price: $775 / person


ITINERARY: 

Tuesday, June 20:

  • Participants arrive in San Francisco
  • Informal welcome dinner and drinks with small groups of travelers who arrive in time (on your own)
  • Recommended hotel where discounted room block has been secured: Zephyr Hotel | 250 Beach St, San Francisco, CA 94133

Wednesday, June 21:

  • Breakfast at hotel + learning session with Dr. Zollman
  • Tour of Congregation Sherith Israel, one of the oldest synagogues in the United States
  • From there, travelers will make their way to Japantown for a walking tour of the neighborhood, which in the 1800s was home to a vibrant Jewish community
  • The next stop is a tour of the Haas Lilienthal House, a structure that best represents San Francisco’s significant victorian history and architecture
  • Included group dinner

Thursday, June 22:

  • Breakfast at hotel + learning session with Dr. Zollman
  • Walking tour of Land’s End: Sutro Heights - a tranquil lookout where America meets the Pacific
  • Our group will then travel to the Holocaust Memorial, in Lincoln Park overlooking the Golden Gate. In this park we will enjoy an included group lunch together, picnic style.
  • The day is rounded out by a visit to the Contemporary Jewish Museum with an architecture tour and free time to explore the museum’s exhibits.
  • Dinner on your own

Friday, June 23 - DAY IN BERKELEY:

  • Learning session with Dr. Zollman
  • Included breakfast will be had at Boichik Bagels, a New York-style bagel shop in the heart of Berkeley
  • After breakfast, travelers will be transported to Urban Adamah, and educational farm and community center, grounded in Jewish tradition
  • Our group will make their way to The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, exploring Jewish history, art and culture
  • Included concluding group dinner

Saturday, June 24:

  • Travel home to San Diego

What’s included in your registration fee?

  • 3-week course - American Jerusalem: Exploring San Francisco’s Jewish History and Heritage. This class is a precursor to the travel seminar, the dates for which are: Wednesdays, May 31; June 7 & 14, 2023 at 10:00am
  • On-site morning learning sessions with Dr. Joellyn Zollman, at the start of each travel seminar day
  • Admission to all tours and programs throughout travel seminar
  • Most meals including breakfasts, lunches and dinners
  • Bus transportation between all locations

What expenses are you responsible for?

  • Airline reservations both to and from San Francisco
  • Hotel reservations. We have reserved a discounted group rate at Zephyr Hotel | 250 Beach St, San Francisco, CA 94133. Rooms can be reserved through a special link provided to travel seminar registrants.
  • Some meals throughout the travel seminar

What is the refund policy if I am unable to attend the travel seminar after I have already registered?

  • If you cancel your registration before Monday, May 22 you will receive a refund of $600. $175 will not be returned and kept as a non-refundable deposit.
  • If you cancel your registration before Monday, June 12 you will receive a refund of $400.
  • Any cancellations after June 12 will result in no refund being issued, except for in the case of extenuating circumstances.
