Deborah Hertz

Deborah Hertz became the Wouk Chair in Modern Jewish Studies and Professor of History at UCSD in 2004.  Prior to that appointment she taught at the State University of New York at Binghamton and Sarah Lawrence College, with visiting appointments at the Hebrew University, Haifa University, and Tel Aviv University. She is the author of Jewish High Society in Old Regime Berlin and How Jews Became Germans, both published by Yale University Press and available in German translations. Her current book-in-progress is tentatively titled Visionaries, Lovers and Mothers: Radical Jewish Women from Conspiracy to Kibbutz.
